Trade your TradingView alerts on MT4 and MT5
Make a private link on your Tickwire dashboard. Paste it into a TradingView alert. When the alert fires, Tickwire places the trade on your MetaTrader 4 or 5 account. It's part of the public beta, and included in the plan price.
Set it up in three steps
No code and no command line. You don't need to keep MetaTrader or your computer on.
- Create a linkOn the dashboard, open TradingView alerts and press New webhook. Pick the account, the size and the stops. Copy the link. It is shown once.
- Paste it into TradingViewCreate an alert, tick Webhook URL and paste the link. Paste the alert message the dashboard gives you into the Message box.
- DoneEach alert becomes an order on your account. Every alert and its outcome is listed under Recent alerts.
TradingView sends webhooks only on a paid TradingView plan.
What you paste
The link looks like this. Keep it private: anyone who has it can send alerts to your account.
https://api.tickwire.io/v1/signals/twsig_… A strategy alert
One alert for the whole strategy. It says where the position should be.
{
"symbol": "{{ticker}}",
"action": "{{strategy.order.action}}",
"market_position": "{{strategy.market_position}}",
"alert_id": "{{strategy.order.id}}-{{timenow}}"
} An indicator alert
Buy with 1% risk, a 20 pip stop and a target at 2R. Values you leave out come from your link's settings.
{"symbol": "{{ticker}}", "action": "buy", "risk_pct": 1, "sl_pips": 20, "tp_r": 2} Position size
Set the size on the dashboard, or send it in the alert.
| Size by | What it does |
|---|---|
| Risk % | A share of your balance, equity or a fixed amount. Tickwire sizes the trade so a hit stop loses that much. |
| Risk money | A fixed cash amount in the account currency, lost if the stop is hit. |
| Lots | A fixed size for every trade. |
| Target position | For strategies. The alert says where the position should be, and Tickwire matches it. |
Risk sizing uses the live price and the terminal's tick value. Sizes are rounded down, never up. The planned loss is before spread, commission and slippage. Risk sizing needs a stop loss.
Stop loss and take profit
Set a default on the dashboard, or send it in the alert.
| Stop as | What it means |
|---|---|
| Price | An exact price, for example from a plot on your chart. |
| Points | A distance in the symbol's points. Works on every symbol. |
| Pips | A distance in pips. Forex symbols only. |
| Percent | A distance as a % of the entry price. |
| R (take profit only) | A multiple of the stop distance. 2R puts the target twice as far as the stop. |
You can refuse any new trade without a stop loss. A stop on the wrong side of the price is refused, and nothing is sent.
When a new alert arrives
An alert for the other side. You choose what happens to the open trade:
- Reverse. Close the open trade and open the new one. This is the default.
- Close. Close the open trade only.
- Ignore. Do nothing.
- Keep both. Open the new trade and keep the old one. Needs a hedging account.
An alert for the same side. Ignore it if a trade is already open, or add to it up to a number of trades you set.
One-shot actions
Manage open trades with an alert. Put one of these in action.
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
close | Close this link's trades on the symbol. |
close_long, close_short | Close one side only. |
close_pct | Close part of the open lots, for example 50%. |
move_sl, move_tp | Move the stop loss or take profit of open trades. |
breakeven | Move the stop loss to the entry price, with an optional offset. |
cancel | Cancel this link's pending orders on the symbol. |
Safe by default
A repeat never trades twice
An alert can arrive twice, for example from a copied alert. The same alert_id gets the first
answer back. The same message within about a minute counts as one alert.
Only its own trades
A link manages only the trades it opened. Trades you place by hand, or from other tools, are left alone.
Every alert recorded
Each alert shows its outcome, the size working and every order sent. TradingView waits only about 3 seconds for an answer. If it times out, the trade still runs, and Recent alerts shows how it ended.
Your own limits
Optional and off until you set them: most lots or risk per trade, most open trades, trading hours, widest spread, oldest alert and buy or sell only.
Pause or replace the link
Pause a link and alerts are refused until you turn it back on. Get a new link and the old one stops working at once.
Honest outcomes
An alert is applied only when the terminal confirms the order. If that can't be confirmed, the outcome
is unknown, not a guess.
MT4 and MT5, any broker
The same link and messages work on both platforms. Sizing uses each terminal's own tick value. On MT4 the terminal has one tick value for profit and loss, so risk sizes there are marked as approximate.
Included in your plan
TradingView alerts are part of the public beta, and they are included in the plan price. You pay only for your accounts. You do need a paid TradingView plan for webhooks.
Questions
Do I need a paid TradingView plan?
Yes. TradingView only sends webhooks on a paid plan. On the free plan the Webhook URL box isn't there. TradingView may also ask you to turn on two-factor authentication first.
Does it cost extra on Tickwire?
No. TradingView alerts are part of the public beta, and they are included in the plan price. You pay only for your accounts.
Does it work on MT4 and MT5?
Yes. The same link and the same alert messages work on MT4 and MT5 accounts, at any broker. Each link trades on one account.
What if the same alert arrives twice?
It trades once. TradingView doesn't resend alerts, but an alert can still be fired twice, for example by a copied alert. An alert with the same alert_id gets the first answer back. The same message within about a minute counts as the same alert. Target position alerts are safe to repeat at any time.
Will it touch trades I opened myself?
No. A link only manages the trades it opened. You can turn on an option to let it manage every trade on the symbol.
Does Tickwire tell me what to trade?
No. Tickwire gives no trading advice or signals. It places the trades your own alerts ask for and records what happened.
