MetaTrader API alternative

Switch MetaTrader API providers without a rewrite

Tickwire serves the request and response shapes that existing MT4 and MT5 API clients already call. If your code calls them over plain HTTP, switching is a new base URL and a Tickwire key. This page says what stays the same, what changes and what we don't offer.

What stays the same

Two API styles, with the same paths, field names and return codes.

The /users/current REST API

Paths, query parameters and field names on /users/current/accounts/{id}/…. Trade action types, stop loss and take profit units, expiration types and return codes. The auth-token header, clientId, and transaction-id with 202 polling when you create an account.

The /v1 API and terminal routes

/v1/accounts, batch orders on /v1/orders, the per-account terminal routes (AccountSummary, OrderSend, OrderClose, …) and the WebSocket topics for prices, bars, positions and trades. X-API-Key or Authorization: Bearer.

- BASE = "https://<your current provider>/v1"
+ BASE = "https://api.tickwire.io/v1"
- KEY = "<your current key>"
+ KEY = "<your Tickwire key>"

What's different

  • Health is based on evidence. An account shows as connected only when the broker link is up, the account was read and ticks are moving. You may see accounts go disconnected that looked fine before.
  • An honest order outcome. Order results add an outcome field. If the broker link drops mid-order and the result can't be confirmed, it says unknown. Retry with the same Idempotency-Key and you never get a second order.
  • Real UTC. UTC fields are real UTC. Broker-local times are in separate, labelled fields. If your code corrected broker times by hand, remove that.
  • Extras. Signed webhooks, a /health endpoint, an audit log of every trade, and an MCP server for AI agents.
  • Pricing. One monthly price per account in USD, on one page.

What we don't offer

  • Copy-trading services.
  • An MT Manager API, for brokers running their own servers.
  • Uploading your own trading programs to run inside the terminal.
  • Cross-region replicas of one account. Each account runs one terminal.

Calls to these fail with a clear error. Other providers' official SDKs are their software, under their licence terms, so we don't support pointing them at Tickwire. Call the REST endpoints directly, or use the Tickwire SDKs.

The comparison lists, feature by feature, where other providers are still ahead.

How to switch

  1. Try it in the sandbox. Get a free sandbox key and point a staging copy of your app at Tickwire. Replay your usual calls.
  2. Link your accounts again. Broker passwords can't be exported from another provider, so create each account with the same name, server, login and platform.
  3. Handle the differences. Treat unknown like a timeout, drop any hand-made broker time correction, and register a webhook instead of polling for status.
  4. Move traffic. Switch the base URL and key in production, then cancel the old service when you're happy.
